Morpeth Bull Inspires Songwriter

A BEEF about a bull inspired Morpeth dialect songwriter Graham Bell. A sculpture at Sanderson Arcade is a nod to the days when the town was home to one of the biggest livestock markets in the country. However, it depicts an Aberdeen Angus bull rather than the shorthorn breed which used to be bought and sold on the town’s main street. Graham performed his bovine ditty at Morpeth Town Hall when he delivered the 2023 Roland Bibby Memorial Lecture, organised by the Northumbrian Language Society.
