The Northumbrian Language Society has existed since 1983 to promote, preserve, research, publish and enjoy those rich dialects from Northumberland to NW Durham (including Tyneside), descendants of the speech of the Angles.
AIMS OF THE SOCIETY
“To research, preserve and promote the Northumbrian language.”
This website intends to give the most comprehensive information you’ll find about the language. Explore the site to find access to standard reference works. Audio and video examples of the spoken word, and examples of dialect writings in prose and poetry.
The Society is a charity, run by volunteers, who arrange occasional events, and collaborate with other organisations to bring our heritage speech to life, and encourage a pride in our unique speech and heritage for the next generation and for worsel.
Please look around, and leave us a message if you can add anything – or if, perchance, you find an error!
Become a Member!
